September 13, 2004 (03:48 UTC)      New website, new suso.org
By now you should have found your way around the new website. I'd like to
also announce a few things about server changes that are coming up. The name
server (antonio) is in the process of being switched over to a new machine
(bela). Bela, which is named for Bela Bartok, will be the name, monitoring and
invoice system database server. The rest of this change over should be
transparent to the user and will happen tommorow night (Monday).
I will also be moving the main user server (gustav) over to a new server
called arvo, which is named for Arvo Part, will have more RAM, CPU power and
much more hard drive space. Also, the drives will be using RAID-1 mirroring,
which means that data will be safe in the event of a single drive failure. The
machine will run the Fedora Core 2 version of Linux. This server's switch over
will be announced next week, after the office opening.
Another migration that will greatly help the main user server is that I will
be moving reasonstation.net onto their own machine. This alone will probably
reduce the current server load by 75% or so as they are a heavy database usage site.
In the not to distant future I should also be moving PHP4 to PHP5, which will
require me to help those of you who use PHP to migrate your programs. This
shouldn't be too much trouble and I'll be testing the changes on another machine
for you.
